Vintage Trains Open Day

In recent years Tyseley Locomotive Works has been closed to visitors except for two Open Weekends per year, BUT for Birmingham Heritage Week on Saturday 12th September we will open the gates to pre-booked visitors!

The one-hour guided tour will include an overview and history of the former Great Western Railway locomotive works built in 1908, the Turntable, Signal Box and the modern workshop complete with Tyseley’s fleet of working mainline steam locomotives as viewed from the visitor gallery. You can also see the progress on the overhaul of No: 7029 “Clun Castle”, the steam loco that heralded the start of steam preservation in the Midlands.

There are a limited number of places on the guided tours and must be booked in advance. The tours start on the hour at 11am, 12noon, 1pm and 2pm. Places can only be booked in advance from the Vintage Trains booking website www.vintagetrainsonline.com and selecting the time you wish to attend. Alternatively, you can telephone the Vintage Trains booking office on 0121-708-4960.

There is no charge for the tour. Tea, Coffee and refreshments will be available for purchase onsite in our buffet coach.

Potential visitors should be aware that the tour may include areas of Tyseley Locomotive Works where trip hazards, uneven and rough ground surfaces may be encountered, as the site is a working railway depot. To access the viewing gallery, visitors must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs.

Tyseley Locomotive Works is easily accessible by the Number 37 bus or by London Midland train service from Birmingham Snow Hill & Moor Street to Tyseley Railway Station. On-site car parking is also available.

We look forward to welcoming you to Tyseley Locomotive Works.
